The “Moving Coffins of Barbados” tells of a massive tomb built to house the bodies of the Chase family on the island of Barbados. This seemingly inexplicable story states that upon opening of the tomb the massive led caskets were found tossed about within the tomb without any explanation. Government officials became involved, inspected and sealed the tomb with additional layers of security but to no avail. Years later when the tomb was opened again, the coffins had been violently thrown about the inside of the tomb. Without any possible explanation, the bodies were exhumed and laid to rest in a separate location. What could possibly explain this? TombsCould it be supernatural or possibly some sort of logical explanation exists? Perhaps we will never know, however it seems likely that this mystery could have been fabricated from the beginning. Tune in and learn all about these mysteries in our latest episode.

  1. I wouldn’t rule out the gases caused by the putrifaction of the bodies. Being tightly sealed, in a hot environment, most likely not embalmed…definitely possible. I think Mythbusters might have even done an episode about a body exploding from gases.

    1. Interesting point Jesse, I have heard of decomposing bodies bloating up with gases building up. If it was just the bodies being moved around or even if it was lightweight coffins I could consider it as a strong explanation. The problem I have is I don’t see how its possible that these gases could move all the caskets around the Chase Vault. The full size caskets were weighted with lead and could weigh several hundred pounds, that would take a lot of gas! Also none of the other vaults in the church grounds had any of these problems, so it’s weird that something was happening to all the caskets in the Chase vault, but at the same time not effecting any of the other family burials in the area. This is one of the few mysteries we’ve covered where I honestly can’t pick a solution that satisfies me!
