1. An axe. Not only is it good for beheading the undead but it also doesn’5 run out of ammo, is a useful tool, and can be sharpened with things found all around us. Also reduces the amount I have to carry making my load lighter and reserving energy.
2. I’m a geocacher and know all the good hiding spots in the wilderness and woods that make up my rural state.
3. A small cave with a low entrance that I can stand in so that a zombie would have to crawl into. Gives me full range of motion to swing my axe.
4. Lone-ish wolf. I’d want one other person and my dogs with me to share the watching duties and be alerted in the unfortunate event we fall asleep at the same time.
1. Machete. Similar to Nancy’s axe theory – light load, can be sharpened most places, and isn’t going to “run out of ammo”, etc.
2. I know basic first aid with some specialist knowledge of which local plants can help what. I have a bit of a green thumb so I’d be readily available to plant vegetables as a food source.
3. A well secured house/building out towards the countryside. It will give protection against the elements with limited access to strangers and/or zombies. If possible, a water source nearby would be ideal, but one can always fashion a water butt if all else fails!
4. I would probably look towards grouping with like-minded people. It is generally safer in numbers and provided there is compromise and compassion within the group, all hell shouldn’t break loose – well, not inside the compound anyway.
1. Silenced pistol, preferably 9mm. Good sturdy knife as emergency backup.
2. Skills: Marathton runner, great cardio. Hunting experience from younger days. Basic camping skills like building makeshift shelters & starting fires.
3. House surrounded by water like on a peninsula. That way would be safe from zombie attacks from most directions and could flee across water by swimming or boat. or better yet a Boathouse!
4. Would either be a loner or have just one or two others with me. But would like to have contact or know of several other camps or groups nearby for trading and for human interaction so I don’t get bored and depressed living in that kind of world!
1. Something long distance. A bow, or a bolt action rifle. As far as close range, a crowbar.
2. I’m a nurse. I’m also a good cook?
3. If my current area around the willamette valley couldn’t work, somewhere in Alberta, Ca or Alaska.
4. Get as far away from popular in centers as possible, but with a small (15-20) group. Stay put unless necessary to leave the area. Build a fort.
1. My preferred weapon would be a Katana sword a la Michonne like walking dead lol, no need to worry about running out of ammo, plus it’s s long enough to keep the zombies at a safe distance.
2. Basic first aid, and good stamina (to run away)
3. I think an island would be good or in a boat out at sea, assuming the zombies can’t swim? If the island was already infected I would gather a small group of fighting survivors like myself and try to clear it. Backup plan getaway on boat.
4.My first strategy would be to gather as much food and supplies as possible, I can go either way lone wolf or be a part of a group.
A zombie “apocalypse” would be one of the easiest disasters to live through. Within a few weeks, most people (Outside of California) would know how to handle them. Zombies are fairly easy to spot. They dress shabbily, they’re slow, and they smell. Granted, the same could be said for many of the people in downtown Santa Cruz or Berkeley.
Anyone who’s seen a zombie movie knows the surest way to send them to final death is to destroy their brain. Darryl from The Walking Dead once killed several of them by swinging a heavy chain into their heads. Many others on the show have killed them merely by stomping on their heads. Apparently, the skull of a zombie is much softer than the skull of a living human.
So, my weapon of choice would be a .22 pistol and and rifle, preferably with a suppressor. A Ruger Mark 1 pistol and Ruger 10-22 rifle would be ideal. With a pocket full of spare magazines I could defend myself fairly effectively. Some people have said they would want an axe or machete. They down side to that is if you’re close enough to them to use an axe, they’re close enough to bite you.
I’ve been in the military for a few years and have been on an army MP SWAT team. While the military didn’t train us specifically on how to deal with the walking dead, I think I have enough training to stay fairly safe.
My ideal base camp would be any home or even large apartment that has strong doors, good locks and a good, clear, unobstructed 360 degree view for about 50-100 meters. That way I can hopefully see any walkers coming during the day or hear them attempting to break in at night. A good rifle with a night vision sight would also be helpful here.
Also, my home or base camp would have to be near a Starbucks or similar coffee shop with WiFi access. Zombie apocalypse or not, I’m having my café mocha and doing frequent status updates on Facebook and Twitter.
My strategy for survival; I’ll be holed up with some like-minded, heavily armed friends. Most of the guys I work with are ex-military and are more armed than I am. Depending on the laws at the time, we would probably spend our days off hunting the random zombie (Military, police, gang-bangers and gun nuts will have taken out the bulk of them) who strays into a area of operations.
However, being as I live in California, zombies would probably be a protected as an endangered species and employers would not only be forced to hire them, they would also be forced to pay for their medical care.
1: A tactical Machete will be my primary weapon. But if there is any chance to carry extra load, I would carry mines and grenades.
2: A Silent assassin. Silent yet deadly. And first aid.
3: I would rather have multiple camps. Shopping mall air vents/Hospitals/Amusement parks/ Basically, hard to reach, lots of supplies, many escape routes.
4: I may be a part of a group, but I mostly work alone. I would suggest everyone to spread and live alone. But stay connected.
Wouldn’t go around annihilating them without purpose. I would rather lure them away.
